GUAT an honor it has been to serve alongside hope4kids, a brand new ministry serving the kiddos of Chimaltenango, Guatemala. With us being the very first team to partner with this ministry, we wanted to set them up well by achieving their goal. Quickly, we realized that it wasn’t just us wanting to achieve their goal, but us genuinely wanting their ministry to succeed. 3/5 days a week we feed their little bodies with nutritious meals, but most importantly, we feed their spirit with the Word of God and their souls with love and care.
Our days usually start with coloring, playing cards and welcoming the kids as they come in. After about an hour, we gather everybody and start our English lesson of the day. We’ve taught the alphabet, numbers, colors, animals, emotions, weather patterns, days of the week, etc. and they absolutely love it! After our lesson, we split into small groups and review, taking turns saying everything in English. After that, we head into our time of recess/ exercise where we usually play soccer, dodgeball, or compete in relays (they’re VERY competitive.) After recess, they’re usually hungry, so Mayra, (one of our ministry hosts that’s currently in her third year of culinary school) always cooks for the kids, and does her best to give them the most nutritious and yummy meals. Lastly, we teach bible stories with important lessons of forgiveness and compassion, and most importantly, helping them understand God’s Love.
This Friday, we’re having a Christmas party for all of the kiddos and are beyond excited to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. We’ll be doing a series of activities, yummy treats, a piñata, and a special gift for each family.
Thank you everyone for following along and supporting my journey.
All my love, Lex
